Course Description

Build on your basic French skills in this conversation-based class. Using real-life contexts to learn and practice two past tenses (passé composé, imparfait), we strengthen vocabulary and confidence as we improve pronunciation and intonation.

Students enrolling in this class level possess some very basic French language skills. They can introduce themselves in French and communicate basic information concerning everyday life, such as where they live, how old they are, their general state of health): "j'habite à Lynden, je n'habite pas à Fairhaven, je travaille à Bellingham, j'ai 52 ans, je vais bien, j'ai faim, je ne suis pas fatigué." They can understand and communicate simply in the present tense if spoken to slowly and distinctly.

Course Outcomes

In the Basic French Conversation course, participants build vocabulary and improve their pronunciation and intonation in

French; they learn to use the passé composé and imparfait verb tenses; and most importantly, they learn to be comfortable

Course activities include short videos and readings that build listening skills and vocabulary, and encourage natural
